Open Education Southern Symposium 2020 Cancelled due to COVID-19 Pandemic
Letter from the Planning Committee:
We hope you and yours are staying safe and healthy during these unusual times we find ourselves immersed in.
After monitoring the updates and information regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation, the Open Education Southern Symposium planning committee has decided to cancel the 2020 conference. This decision did not come easily, but we feel it’s in the best interest of all involved. While efforts to “flatten the curve” are currently underway in the U.S. and across the globe in hopes that the situation improves by summer, we felt it was imperative to act proactively, rather than wait and see if these efforts are successful, in order to reduce some of the uncertainty currently surrounding us all.
While we are disappointed that we will not get to greet and host you all this summer, the Open Education Southern Symposium will return to North Carolina State University and the James B. Hunt Jr. Library in 2021. We also realize that the efforts put in place by many institutions and organizations to lessen the spread of the virus may impact many people’s ability to attend conferences for professional development moving forward, and we’ll be looking at ways to address this in 2021.
At this time, we are going to take the next couple of months off from planning so that our committee members can adjust to their new realities and focus on keeping their communities, families, and themselves safe and healthy. We will return to the planning process in August, so be sure to follow us on Twitter (@OpenEdSS) for announcements and news regarding OESS 2021.
In the meantime, don’t forget:
- Wash your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds.
- Stay home if you can.
- Do not leave your home if you’re sick unless it’s to see a medical professional.
- If washing your hands isn’t possible, use hand sanitizer.
We will get through this and we will get through it together.
Stay safe, stay healthy, and take care of yourself, including your mental health.
We hope to see and welcome you at OESS 2021.
